How to do Jessica Biel’s Cleopatra Look

0

How many men bowed before the great and beautiful Cleopatra? Probably many. This is not just because of her power but because the late Egyptian queen was naturally beautiful. Let us also not withstand the fact that ancient Egypts were vain enough to discover cosmetics out of nature’s abundance. While we are thankful that today’s cosmetics are derived in a humane and less gross  ways, we do still pay homage to our ancestors. Proving that we give tribute to ancient beauty, there are plenty of ladies who immortalize the beauty of Cleopatra one of which is Mrs. Timberlake, Jessica Biel.

The Cleopatra inspired makeup of Jessica was done by Kara Yoshimoto Bua that perfectly matched the matte black and shimmery blue eyeliner that the actress sported during the Museum of Modern Art’s 2013 Film benefit. The result was gorgeous as Kara was able to transcend Cleopatra to Jessica giving the Cleopatra-inspired look a modern twist.

Prepping Your Face

For her base, Kara mixed Chanel’s Sublimage La Crème Yeux Ultimate Regeneration Eye Cream($225) and rose water, to tone Jessica’s skin. After mixing, blend the mixture over your face. The mixture also hydrates Jessica skin. Jurlique’s Rosewater Balancing Mist($28) works well with Chanel’s eye cream.

Rather than using foundation, Kara gave us a beauty tip when she used a powder instead of foundation. For a fresh and light skin, ditch the foundation. Apply concealer on your coverage and dust press powder over it. Kara made use of Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15 ($94.95). You can also dust your face with Maybelline’s Fit Me Pressed Powder ($6).

Beautiful Blush

For rosy cheeks, Kara applied Chanel’s Powder Blush ($79.98) in Frivole to Biel’s cheeks that gave the actress the rosy and radiant healthy glow. Meanwhile, if you run out of Chanel, Sephora’s Colorful Blush ($15.99) in Apricot Sheen gives you the same glow too.

For the Feline Look

To contour the eyes, a natural toned palette works well. In Jessica’s case, Kara used Chanel’s Quadra Eyeshadow ($59) in Dunes to contour Jessica’s lids. Kara dusted Jessica’s socket with the darkest shade while she opted to dust the Mrs. Justin Timberlake’s lid and brow bone with the lightest shade.

Now comes the part that will help people decide whether you give the Cleopatra look a justice. Kara applied a thick line of blue eyeliner on Jessica’s bottom waterline, under the bottom of her lashline. Kara extended the line to a point then used a black eyeliner to mimic what she did on the bottom. She then met the two lines on the outer corner. For a long-wearing formula, Kara applied Chanel’s Long Lasting Waterproof Eyeliner ($30) in Jade and Noir Intense. CoverGirl’s Vivid Impact Eyeliner ($6.69) in Jade and Midnight makes a great alternative. Complete the look with a black mascara.

Balancing the Lips

Since your eyes are colorful enough, you should neutralize the color of your lips. You can go for a nude lip and swipe it with a sheer balm. Kara chose Precision Lip Definer ($29) in Natural for Jessica’s lips. Yet, NYX’s Slim Lip Pencil ($4.25) in Beige can also help you nail Cleopatra’s look.

Match Your Locks

Apart from her well maintained makeup, Cleopatra is also known for her iconic hair. You can go for a straight hair with a simple part like what Jessica’s hair stylist Harry Josh did. He used John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Thermal Serum($10) to protect the actress hair while he blow dry Jessica’s straight hair. For a sleek and polished look, you can use Pro Tools Ceramic Styling Iron ($200) like what Harry did to Jessica. Just don’t forget to spritz your hair with hairspray for longer hold.

So have fun practicing the look!
